how to trigger the pulse feature on iphone?

It's pretty straightforward. Head over to Settings >> Sounds & Haptics and you can set what you want to pulse there.

Also note that in the Sounds & Haptic settings, there are two categories of pulse options: <em>vibrate on Ring and Pulse on Silent</em>

That's definitely right,. I keep both settings on simply because it helps me to not miss important calls and notifications.
